History
01 / 04Sasu Ripatti was born in 1976 in Oulu, northern Finland. Since the late nineties he has recorded under a rotating cast of aliases, each built to explore a different edge of electronic sound — from stripped-down dub techno to dancefloor vocal house.
His records are made of dense, semi-random layers: pulsing sub-bass, off-grid percussion, long trailing delay, and treated vocals — often the voice of his wife, German vocalist and sound poet Antye Greie (AGF). On Anima, one simple theme is repeated and reshaped across an entire record.
Born in Oulu, Finland.
First recordings as Vladislav Delay — the start of a three-decade catalogue.
Four albums, one year: Multila and Entain as Vladislav Delay, Vocalcity as Luomo, Vapaa Muurari as Uusitalo. Founds Huume Recordings.
Joins Moritz von Oswald Trio on drums and percussion; releases Tummaa on Raster-Noton.
Plays All Tomorrow's Parties at the invitation of Animal Collective. Releases the jazz-leaning Vladislav Delay Quartet album.
Visa comes out on his own label, Ripatti — then a five-year disappearance from public view.
